Regular ESSL Testbed week: 17 – 21 June 2024
Expert week: 24 – 28 June 2024

ESSL Research and Training Centre
Wiener Neustadt, Austria

At this edition of the “ESSL Testbed”, a number of products will be evaluated, including these:

  • Meteosat Third Generation FCI products
  • Improved Nowcasting and ICON NWP products from DWD’s SINFONY project
  • Medium-range ESSL/ECMWF AR-CHaMo ensemble probability products
  • C-LAEF ensemble prediction products for severe weather

Please note that ESSL and EUMETSAT in addition organize joint testbeds on Severe Convective Storms in preparation for Meteosat Third Generation data. Candidates can apply for acceptance and sponsorship to these “EUMETSAT-ESSL Forecaster Testbeds” via the EUMETSAT training website.

For whom is the “ESSL Testbed”?

The goal of the Testbed is twofold. First, it caters for forecasters who want to learn how to forecast severe convective storms using state-of-the-art forecasting tools. Second, it is a hands-on evaluation of new, sometimes experimental, forecast products. This means that both forecasters and developers of forecast products have an interest in the Testbed. In addition, other people having a background in meteorology are most welcome to participate as well. Are you still unsure if the Testbed is the right activity for you? Try our Quiz!
