The database

Weather services, researchers, insurers, and the general public all have a vital interest in data on severe weather occurring in Europe. The ESWD database is a way of sharing these data within Europe and neighbouring countries, and among the groups of users and stakeholders involved. In the present first operational phase, the ESWD database is fully open to everybody. That is, anyone can add and extract data. However, public reports are stored separately from reports coming in from cooperating NMHSs, allowing for their separate quality-control and retrieval.

For use of the ESWD, the following conditions apply:
- ESWD data are provided "as-is", with no warranty of any kind.
- Any publication referring to or using ESWD data, shall acknowledge the "European Severe Weather Database, ESWD" and its web address "eswd.eu".
- During quality-control, the database managers may edit or delete any public report without notice.
- In this first operational ESWD phase, public reports can usually undergo only initial quality-control.
- Quality-control of ESWD data provided by cooperating NMHSs is performed by these NMHSs.

We would be happy to hear your opinions, questions and suggestions for improvement.
