ESSL established as a registered association (e.V.).

ESSL established as an association.

Jan. 2006:

ESWD database becomes operational. Three NMHS partners: DWD, INM, ZAMG.

Jun. 2005:

Web-based ESWD database moves from ESTOFEX to ESSL.

Jan. 2004:

Graphics-based ESWD database prototype developed by Pieter Groenemeijer, online at ESTOFEX.

Jan. 2003:

Web-based ESSL starts operations under its own domain name.

Dec. 2002:

ESSL's web domain essl.org becomes available. Development of an initial Action Plan.

Nov. 2002:

Definition of a scientific Core Group has started in order to form an ESSL network. To join, or to obtain further information, send a nikolai.dotzek@essl.org to the organizers.

Oct. 2002:

Pilot study for the ESSL is awarded a third prize in the ideas competition "Storm damage: Precaution, prevention, and maintenance" (Sturmschäden: Vorsorge, Vermeidung und Nachsorge) of the Stiftung Umwelt und Schadenvorsorge.

Aug. 2002:

European Conference on Severe Storms in Prague, Czech Republic. Text-based first ESWD version presented by Fulvio Stel and Dario Giaiotti, online at OSMER-FVG.

Jun. 2002:

Initial ESSL website. Pilot study for the ESSL available in pdf format on the web.

Apr. 2002:

Pilot study for an ESSL prepared during a science visit to the NSSL and submitted to Stiftung Umwelt und Schadenvorsorge idea competition.

Nov. 2000:

Concept of an ESSL presented and discussed at a workshop on "Tornadoes and Hail" organized by the Risk Prediction Initiative in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Feb. 2000:

Concept of an ESSL presented and discussed with NSSL scientists at the 1st European Conference on Tornadoes and Severe Storms in Toulouse, France.

Oct. 1999:

Concept of an ESSL presented at the Symposium "Naturkatastrophen in Mittelgebirgsregionen" at Universität Karlsruhe, Germany.

Jan. 1997:

Severe local storm network TorDACH was founded. Idea of an ESSL starts to emerge.
